Are We Ready for War?
When asked this
question the other day, I responded with another question. That question was,
"Which war are you asking about?" Then discussion began on what the
heck are we both saying. This person was talking about President Bush's war
against terrorism and going after Saddam Hussein in Iraq. This person was not
sure why we wanted this man removed from power, or what connections he had to
the Sept. 11, 2001 World Trade Center attack. In fact many of us are not sure
of the connections between the two. We started out after a Terrorist Group in
Afghanistan and finding no sole person responsible, suddenly shifted our attack
on another. Does this mean that Osama Bin Laden has now become Osama Bin
Forgotten? Although there isn't much doubt that Saddam Hussein seeks to be the
high and mighty by creating fear of his presence, we should look for the
material reasons as to our own aggression. Does the word OIL mean anything?
Does this justify sending young troops to war?
Now, The war that
upsets me the most is the war that President Bush has declared on working and
middle class Americans. This war comes about now that the wealthy corporations,
the richest one percent of America, and wealthy foreign investors, have gained
control of the United States Senate, United States Congress, Presidents Office,
and many of the State Legislatures which have put on their agendas to create a
non-organized workforce who will work for more hours at less wages, bear their
own healthcare cost, receive little or no social security assistance, watch
their decent jobs go to other countries, have no say in matters affecting them,
while at the same time, must carry the burden of paying the taxes that keep
this country from going completely under. These things are components of the
Presidents mandated proposals. As you can see, there isn't anything positive
for Americans like you and I. What do the Corporations, Rich Americans, and
Wealthy foreign investors have in these proposals? Now this is a good question.
These groups reap the tax breaks, position themselves for administering how the
nation's funded or maybe our under funded programs will perform, receive fees
for handling our tax dollars, pass program failures on to the State Governments
who surely can't carry the load, and open all of our protected National Parks
so some of the Biggest Oil Companies can drill for free oil.
I know this seems
like a long sad story, and when you really take a good look at it, that's
exactly what it is. Many actions such as problems in the Middle East, and our
War on Terrorism seem to distract our attention from losing much of our life
savings in our retirement funds, and/or the condition of the nation's stock
markets. We must think on a much broader scale in order to figure out what is
happening in America and why. We need to think for ourselves and not let the
media dictate our thoughts and ideas. We need to gather information so that
facts become evident. We need to examine to a much deeper degree how we can
prevent falling prey to those who make tremendous profits from our weaknesses.
Yes, we hear many statements regarding protecting Homeland Security. My real
question is how much do we hear about; Protecting Social Security, Protecting
Healthcare Security, Protecting Retirement Income Security, and very
importantly Job Security.
There is already
a war to be fought. A war right here at home.
