UAW Region 5 Raising Funds
UAW Region 5, a
17-state region of the United States that includes Texas, has set records in
raising political money in the past, and the new goal is $1 million this year.
Reactionary laws greatly limit the participation of unions in the political
process, but UAW-CAP, so far, still has the legal right to raise money and work
to give working Americans a voice in politics. Local 848 members are among the
many UAW people who are presently raising V-CAP money.
A large number of UAW members are already in the “Century
Club” because they donate over $100 in a calendar year. Starting this year, the
new “Director’s Club” honors those who donate over $300/year. Several Local 848
members joined as soon as the new honor became available. UAW Local 848
activists are selling raffle tickets for an ocean cruise. Winners get two
airline tickets to a resort area, then a 7-day all-expense-paid cruise. They
can pick from Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, or the Mexican Riviera.
UAW Local 967 Retiree President Ruth Hise
volunteered for the “Director’s Club” without being asked at the UAW Region 5
Retiree Seminar on May 7. After hearing the speakers, she just went up to the
front and wrote a check!
