Volunteer on Election Day

Local
848 members, retirees, and their families are needed for the final push on
election day. Call President Giesecke at 972-263-2808. Raytheon members can
take 1 hour off any time during election day for voting. Vought members can
take the last hour or the first hour. President Giesecke says that those taking
the first hour can help with placing signs at precincts.
Volunteers,
especially those with pickup trucks, are asked to go to the old East Dallas
UAW Hall at I30 & Grand on Monday to get their election-day packages and
assignments.
Volunteers
may want to work with a special candidate during the election. A list of union
endorsed candidates' addresses & phone numbers is available at the union
hall. Those who have no assignment or just prefer to work along with more
experienced volunteers may report to the Central Labor Council at 1408 N Washington
in Dallas at 8 AM on election day. President Giesecke is a precinct judge
and will not be available to make assignments on election day.
AFL-CIO
principal officer Gene Freeland said that driving people to the polls in Dallas
County will not be necessary, as the Yellow Cab Company has volunteered. Volunteers
will be walking door-to-door, working precinct entrances, and/or phone banking.
Seventeen
Local 848 retirees have already pitched in with telephoning work.
