Boeing Strikers Reach Agreement
Local 848 members should know that the negotiating team at Machinist's (IAM) Local 751 recommended a new contract proposal and their membership ratified by 80% on September 29. They had been on strike for 4 weeks. Details are available on www.iam751.org.
Earlier, the union had announced that their main reason for striking was the company's offer of $66 per month per year of service as proposed new pension multiplier. IAM 751 members previously had a $60 multiplier, and the new proposal would give retirees $70.
The new proposal has bonuses in each of the three years. Top pay for Boeing
workers moves to $33.83/hour, including the fold-in of previous Cost-of-Living-Advances
(COLA). In recommending the new proposal, the union negotiating team said, "We
have shown the American people we can stand up and get a multi-national corporation
to do the right thing.... Every member can hold their head up high and be proud
of what we have accomplished together - for you, your families and future workers.

accepted concessions or reduced benefits for the next generation since 9-11.
