UAW Members Celebrate

Labor Day, 2005

President James Splawn and a number of Local 848 active and retired members attended the Dallas AFL-CIO Labor Day Breakfast in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel in Irving on September 5. They heard a thorough report on the events of the past year from Texas AFL-CIO leader Becky Moeller.

Among the other speakers was Rodney Breaux, who served as the labor liaison to the United Way in New Orleans before the disaster. Breaux was able to collect over $2,000 through the generosity of the union people. Labor has provided several opportunities for unionists to help the Gulf Coast victims. Some of them are listed on the AFL-CIO page.

Dallas County Democrats held a well-attended picnic in Fair Park. Tarrant County unionists are arranging for a special ball game dedicated to labor at the Ball Park in Arlington, but it will take a few weeks.
