The union membership meeting on June 26 brought a smooth transition of leadership.
International Rep Wendell Helms came to swear in President Splawn and all the
local's officers.
President Splawn began by leading a round of applause for the outgoing leadership. He talked about the obligations and duties of good union leadership. He did not fail to assess the serious challenges that all American unions are facing today. He summarized, "The trend is not going up, the trend is going down." He took special note of legal actions against active and retired unionists.
Splawn issued two challenges to the membership. One was to bring in more materials for our local union publications. The other was to take the time to get to know other union people. "It is very important that we get started today on that challenge," he added.
