Civil Rights Committee

Start 2006 with a March for Rights!

Local 848 members will honor Dr Martin Luther King again this year by marching through downtown Dallas. Look for Local 848's banner near the front of Dallas City Hall, 1500 Young Street, at 9 AM on Saturday, January 14. We will be there come rain, snow, shine or sleet.
I think what Dr King did for us words cannot really express. People don't really look at what Dr King did, they look at it as what someone else did. But had he not done what he did, we wouldn't be in the position that we're in today. You can never give him the full credit that he deserves. We should continue to go on with that.
Please come to our meetings on the Wednesday afternoon before union meetings. That would make the January meeting on the 18th. We'll join the Jobs with Justice meeting at 6:30 PM on Tuesday the 10th to get our signs and everything ready for the big march.
We have a big, modern, flat-screen television/combo DVD player to raffle as one of our projects.
I disagree with actor Morgan Freeman on stopping Black History Month. We have only that one month to try to celebrate what our culture has done in so many years. It's not a good idea to try to stop it. I think we should be adding to Black History month instead of taking from it.
If anybody is interested in being part of Civil Rights, they can contact Jay Dunn or me. My Vought extension is 6-4029 and my cell phone is 817-797-0747.
