They bring covered dishes and pastries, but the local pays for the main dish.
The retirees
nearly always have an outside speaker or entertainer. Recently, the political
situation has become of such great concern that almost every discussion in our
union hall includes talk about politics.
Local 848’s retirees are justly proud of their
high level of activity during election seasons.
All UAW Locals are encouraged to have active
retiree chapters with monthly meetings, but other international unions may not.
Our UAW retiree chapters are affiliated with the Alliance of Retired Americans
(ARA) as part of the AFL-CIO Getting cheaper prescription drugs and other health care issues are major
challenges for this important and growing national retiree organization.
