Members Study with UAW
Danny Green, Jack and Lily Patterson, Ed Reach, and Gene Lantz attended the first week of Region 5 Leadership Institute in Norman Oklahoma during early June, 2005. They heard major speakers and participated in discussion groups on the major issues facing the union. They sharpened their skills to be better able to meet the challenges.
Almost all
of the delegates were aware of the need for fund-raising for the union's Community
Action Program (CAP). Region 5 has been a leader of the International Union
in fund raising, and intends to continue. During the Summer School, delegates
held raffles, auctions, and other fund raisers.
Hundreds of auto worker retirees have joined a "check-off" program so that contributions to CAP can be taken directly from their pension checks. However, aerospace retirees generally have no such option so far. Nevertheless, several retirees, including some from Local 848, contribute $300 or more per year. Retirees also sell CAP raffle tickets.
